Splitcam - Running & Configuring ....

  1. Click this
    icon on your desktop.

  2. The Splitcam mainscreen is displayed.

It looks pretty much the same as before.
    Only one button extra -

  3. Swith video window and advertising window.

Go to the Options menu / Advertisements - Exchange ad and video windows.

  4. Connect to your source

I took Video Camera as source.

    Quote:
Hardware specs for my cams :

    • Model : PC-30
    • Brand : MEDION
    • Suitable for : Windows XP
    • Connection type : USB
    • Brandtype: MD 85081 (PC-30)

My webcam was recognised by the system as USB PC Camera with Mic (SN9C105)

    Note :

    • You can use your desktop as video source too.
Meaning everything that comes on your screen will be passed on to the other applications (like Yawcam).

    • Changing the video source makes the source is connected immediately.
Closing down and restart, you have to connect via the Play button.
See the video control buttons on the right side of the screen :

  5. Change your output settings :

    • Video Config :
The possibilities you have here, are depending on the source you chose.
Go to the File menu / Video config...
With the selection i made as source i can vary with :

      Settings

      Effects

      Zoom and Pan

    • Frame rate :
Go to the File menu / Frame rate

The frame rate can vary between 5 fps and 30 fps.
The default value set is 15 fps.

    • Color / Brightness / .....:

With SplitCam you can make adjustments to the video or image currently being played. Image controls let you change brightness, contrast, and saturation, as well as make color corrections if necessary.
To adjust any of the image parameters just click the corresponding scroll bar where you want to move the trackpoint. Or click and drag the trackpoint. To restore a parameter to its default value click the corresponding button:

      Color correction :

SplitCam uses its internal video processing for color corrections.
Please note that video processing imposes higher requirements on your system. When color correction is enabled you may notice increased processor load and possibly experience system slow down. If computer performance becomes inacceptable you should desable color correction.

      Image quality :

When available SplitCam uses device manufacturer interfaces for controlling picture brightness, contrast and saturation. When these interfaces are not provided by device manufacturer SplitCam will use its own picture processing.
Please note that video processing imposes higher requirements on your system. When video adjustments are enabled you may notice increased processor load and possibly experience system slow down. If computer performance becomes inacceptable you should desable video adjustments.

  6. Now is ready to pass the signal to [nn] other applications.

Splitcam - Taking snapshots with ....

Aldough it isn't designed for it,
You can take snapshots / save frames with Splitcam
As source you can have :

  • Desktop movement.
  • Existing file (AVI, MPG, MPEG, DAT, MP2, WMV, WMA or ASF)
  • Connected camera

Since the use of the snapshot manager isn't changed i post a link to my previous guideline : Splitcam - Taking snapshots with .....
The default delay between 2 snapshots is set to 3 seconds.
However the trick to set a shorter delay (with previous version) can still be used : Split Camera - Snapshot Manager - How to set 1second delay.

Pro's :

  • Open an existing file give you the possibility to use more filetypes then before :
New supported file type are marked in bold.

    • AVI
    • MPG
    • WMV
    • WMA
    • ASF
    • DAT
    • MPEG
    • MP2

  • Multipple selection for adding files/clips to the list is possible.

REMARK :

  • Removed previous installation of splitcam.
Noticed that not all components were removed.
    Directory "C:\Program Files\SplitCam" and "C:\Program Files\SplitCam\~Temp~SnapShots" remained on disk.
Also found traces back in the registry of the previous version.

    Example :

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-342929108-2221991687-3465150396-1001_Classes\VirtualStore\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\LoteSoft\SplitCam]
    "Version"="4.2.2.0"
    "Directory"="C:\\Program Files\\SplitCam"

  • The Splitcam.sys file (located in "C:\Windows\System32\drivers") seems to be an old one.

  • The local helpfile installed with the package is an old one.

  • Selecting/Opening an existing file plays the clip/movie in loops.
You have, of course the Stop button to stop playback and close the playing clip.
An option to set "loop / play[nn]" times would be welcome.

  • The use of the Snapshot manager did not changed according to the previous versions.

  • For each snapshot i took from a ASF clip, an instance of ffdshow video decoder was opened.

  • When chosing existing file(s) as a source (clips/movies), you can add an entire directory to the playlist.

How is this option be handled ?
In one case, only one file was added.
In a second case, no files were added to the list.

When building a "slide show" list (pictures).
The option seems to do what it is supposed to : "Adding all the pictures, from the selected location, to the playlist.

  • Somehowe the option to rearrange the playlist order is/would be welcome.

  • The "effects" can only be used with a webcam as source.

Splitcam - What are effects made of ?

In the new version of Splitcam you can make use of "effects".
Those effects are objects placed over the output image of your webcam.
Effects can only be used with a webcam as source.

The file extention used for such "effects" is .sp.
You might ask yourselve, where can we get additional cliparts ?
Infact the answer is simpe,
Those files are just simple bitmap graphics.
As an example, I renamed the file america.sp into america.bmp and gimp gave me the info :

Quote:
Naam : America.bmp
width : 141 px
heighth : 108 px
colordpth : 24 bit
Type : BMP afbeelding
Mime Type: image/bmp
Color : RGB color
Resolution : 72.009 ppi

I changed the image a bit and renamed it to belgium.sp.
In Splitcam i chose the changed image as new flag.
Here the result :

My appologise to all americans whom might be obset by the recolored flag in the picture.
Just an example.
