This is NOT how External Application support will be implemented in the final version.
Select the clip/movie you want to work with and right click the clip/record/file.
In the menu select the option "Open File / Choose Program ..." When you get this notification (see picture) that means that you don't have a program seleceted in Windows to open files with that extension.
In the example the clip has extension flv
In that case select the option "Select the program from a list" and confirm with the button.
Select the aplication from the list.
If you want to avoid the same message, then select the option "Always use the selected programto open this kind of file". This action also imply that, the next time you dubbel click an item in the file list and the "Main PLayer" option is set to "User's default player", the media player/program will be used to play/open the file. Other tab :
"Main PLayer"
1 Videophile Full-screen player: When playing clips/movies in full screen mode, the Videophile II build in player is used.
2 User's Default Player: When playing clips/movies in full screen mode, the in Windows associated media player is used. Here you can have different players. When normally playing WMV files in Windows Media PLayer, its Windows Media PLayer that is going to start here ....
This option determines, when a clip is played in full screen mode, wich media player is to be used
Click the button to continue.
The clip now opened in VLC Media Player the application i had chosen.

In this example you have effectively told Windows to make VLC the default program for file type FLV. It is worth mentioning that if, in Program Options, you set the option to 'User's default player' you can now just double-click on the thumbnail to play this file in VLC... _________________ If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there... - Mike Skinner
