HJSplit - Can HJSplit work on a mac ?

There was something like a Mac version of hj split years ago which was quite basic and buggy.
It's not even listed anymore on a software site like http://www.macupdate.com

I'd recommend you to use (all freeware or donationsware w/ nagwindow):

  • Split&Concat 2.5 - can join/split most files

Split&Concat is a small utility with the OS X interface that makes it easy for people to split large files to be uploaded, or to put together split files downloaded from the Internet.

For that reason you can find often binary files that are split in parts like filename.mp3.001, filename.mp3.002, filename.mp3.003 etcetera. It is possible to put these parts together using commands in the Terminal yet not everybody is handy with that. Of course, you can also use this program to split or recombine files that are too large e.g. to be put on one CD.

The program will warn you if you try to process a file that contains a "resoure fork", or if you attempt to split a Mac OS X program (which in reality is a folder containing files). In these cases you are adviced to first place the file on a disk image (using Disk Copy, or Toast etc.), then compress the disk image (convert to compressed) and then split the (compressed) disk image file with Split&Concat. If you then concat the split parts of the disk image file, the resulting file will contain an exact copy of the original file.

This program cannot split files into parts that are greater than 2 Gig. This is a limitation of the Unix "split" CLI.

  • MacPAR deLuxe 3.6.1 - for handling PAR and RAR files

MacPAR deLuxe is a utility program that can be useful to you if you upload and download binary files to and from Internet newsgroups. MacPAR deLuxe ca also give a clear overview of the status of all files.

    Features :

    • Full support for the "par 1" and "par 2" standards.
    • Perform verification, recovery and automatic unrar (if applicable) by just double-clicking the ".par" or ".par2" file.
    • Get a clear overview of the status of all files (see example screenshots).
    • Create a par or par2 volume set by dragging files to the window and simply save the document.
    • Open a rar archive and unpack the files inside.
    • Can automatically start an external program to process files in the par set.
    • Aqua user interface - created with the Cocoa framework.
    • Can open multiple windows and run multiple jobs at the same time.
    • Alternatively, multiple jobs can be queued and processed one after the other, to save machine overhead.
    • Many configurable options.
    • Fully compatible with "other" par and rar utilities.
    • Documentation included in the "Help" menu.

  • MacHacha 3.1 - does a similar job like Split&Concat

MacHacha Pro is a great utility to split & join files using several common cross-platform formats (windozee, mac, unix), such as hjsplit, hacha, fastsplit, mastersplitter or winsplit. Since version 1.1, also supports joining-uncompressing RAR regular and multi-segment files.

    Features :

    • Various minor code refinements.
    • Added a new "Alphajoin" command under the File menu (joins arbitrary files alphabetically).
    • Added monitorization of RAR archives containing multiple files.
    • Fixed wrong association of certain applications (name ending with ".0") to MacHacha.
    • Added international support for decimal separator in split window.
    • Minor performance improvements.
    • Added spanish localization.
    • Bundled "unrar" universal binary.
    • writable location, such as your desktop, and try joining them again.

    REMARKS - Known issue :

    • Known issue: monitorization of RAR archives will fail when file names contain ASCII 10 or 13 (CR or LF), bug associated to the unrar binary. Files will be uncompressed anyway so, when you think the extraction is done, just hit the "Cancel" button of the progress bar window.
    • Known issue: you may not be able to join segments located in the root level of a volume, because of a permissions issue. Just move these segments to a well
      known read

    Screenshot :

There's even a prg that can join files from the Badango site (if you don't wonna use their own (Mac)software. Methinks that was Rosetta 1.4.6 (can't verify that right now cause i don't have file to test) but that is discontinued and no longer available as an official download. I have it and it still works on Tiger.
